With around 50 million women in the USA alone concerned about facial hair removal according to some estimates, it’s no wonder some of the large health and personal care companies invested much time and research into developing an answer.

That answer came on July 31, 2000 when Bristol-Myer Squibb along with The Gillette Company announced the launch of Vaniqa, a cream designed to slow down and minimize facial hair growth.

As a result of applying Vaniqa cream, millions of women now had the opportunity to make facial hair removal a lot easier.

Yes, they still had to continue with their regular method of facial hair removal, be it waxing, sugaring, threading or tweezing, but doing this in conjunction with applying Vaniqa reqularly made it a lot easier and facial hair removal sessions more infrequent.

The road to FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approval for any drug is a long drawn out process which takes years. This of course is for the public’s protection to make as certain as possible there are no undesirable serious side effects.

Bristol-Myer Squibb and Gillette succeeded in getting Vaniqa FDA approved so it is available as a prescription cream from a medical practitioner.

The background to the launch of Vaniqa is intriguing:

A drug by the name of Eflornithine was developed many years ago to combat malignant cancer. Regretfully it was not effective for that purpose.

However, by accident it was discovered that Eflornithine was effective against the condition commonly known as sleeping sickness which is found in many parts of Africa.

A curious side effect of the drug was hair loss, as is the case with some drugs used in the fight against cancer.

Further investigation revealed that Eflornithine inhibits the work of an enzyme connected with hair growth. This led to the production of a cream containing 139mg/g of eflornithine hydrochloride. It took the name “eflornithine hydrochloride 13.9%” and was sold under the brand name – Vaniqa.

Vaniqa is a topical cream applied directly to the skin to assist with facial hair removal, specifically in the areas around the lip and under the chin.

As time went on, both Bristol-Myer Squibb and The Gillette Company felt that Vaniqa was no longer in keeping with their future goals and targets so they sold it in June 2002 to a company called Women First Healthcare.

In June 2004, the U.S. Bankrupty Court announced that SkinMedica, a pharmaceutical company specializing in dermatology, had won the bid for all U.S. rights and some international rights for Vaniqa from Women First Healthcare.

As of this writing, Vaniqa continues to be sold under prescription in the USA. It is also available in the European Union from Shire Pharmaceuticals who hold a sub-license for exclusive rights to market it in the EU and some other areas.

Evidently there is a future for this product, given the interest in acquiring rights to produce and sell it backed by the more than thirty six million dollars paid by SkinMedica to Women First Healthcare.

So is Vaniqa for everyone?

Not exactly. It is for women not men, and girls under the age of 12 are advised not to use it. In clinical tests, about 58% of the women using it found it made a difference to the rate of facial hair growth. It seemed to have better results on women past the menopause.

This means that a fair percentage did not notice any difference.

As with all drugs there can be side effects although in the case of Vaniqa, these are minimal, and mainly involve skin irritations and rashes for a small number of users.

So to clarify, Vaniqa is not a facial hair removal cream. It is rather a facial hair growth inhibitor. Applying it regularly each day will result in a reduction in hair growth for at least half the women who use it thus making their preferred method of facial hair removal such as waxing, tweezing, or threading, a lot easier.

Laser hair removal although do not offer permanent solution, but is an effective method of removing facial hair removal. As more and more people are accepting the facial hair removal, we witness loads of competition going around in delivering laser hair removal treatment. Although, permanent facial hair removal stands at a high priority especially in case of any woman as there has been seen a lot of problem of unwanted facial hair in women. As a result, women have been seen spending a lot of time and effort in ensuring that their skin always looks their best. Since there has been a lot of achievement in medical science, it has been seen that in the wake of this, women do not take any risk in jeopardizing their skin health, especially if it is face. Though, there are razors available in the market, which can prove immensely advantageous in case of men, yet women are not very much comfortable with the idea since there are a lot of hassles involved in the process. Although, most women have developed a routine that involves careful facial skin care, yet they are always on a lookout for permanent solution. As a result, they use different types of hair removers.

On the other hand, the use of razors and depilatory creams can result in irritations and are susceptible to make women feel self-conscious as a result. One of the main concerns is also regarding the skin care and damage needs to be protected. Women in particular try to find out as how to make it possible where hair removal do not correspond to problems especially pertaining to skin. That is where they start taking care of this element. Although, laser hair removal is a good option, especially when it comes to the removal of facial hair, however one has to make sure that the results achieved are not permanent. As far as permanency of hair removal is concerned, the usual method of permanent facial hair removal is http://www.laserhairremovalcity.com/electrolysis/”> Electrolysis . However, the process of electrolysis is something that is not immediately preferred on all accounts.

One of the benefits it aims for is that it is costly and proves to be time consuming as well. But with the passage of time, people are looking for other options as well that go beyond electrolysis. Now the question arises that is there any option that can be proved useful when it comes permanent hair removal. It also incorporates the skin care as well. Fortunately there is one method known as Epilight that is a relatively new treatment. The results are permanent as far as laser hair removal is concerned and proves to be gentle on the skin too. Catering to the specific needs, the hair and skin types of each woman, it has become the most preferred tool.

Do you think youre sick and tired of all the painful threading and shaving to maintain your encounter hunting ideal? Frustrated about having to do it over and about once again even so uncomfortable it is? Effectively there is certainly now an alternative to all individuals. Laser facial hair removal is now the simplest and most effective approach to remove unpleasant and unneeded hair. Because the title suggests laser facial hair removal requires using a laser to completely remove hair painlessly without leaving in depth scarring like a few of the other strategies.

Laser hair removal is determined by the emission of extreme light on a target region to successfully quit the growth of undesirable hair. The method of laser hair elimination is determined by melanin. Melanin is a pigment that is current in hair and skin offering them their colour. The colour arises due to melanins capability to soak up light and different types of melanin take in different quantities of light thereby generating different hair and pores and skin hues. In laser facial hair elimination remedy the laser is directed to a target place in which the hair is needed for being eliminated. The melanin in these locations get harmed when they soak up the intense light from your laser.

So the goal of laser facial hair removal is to injury the melanin and destroy the follicles in the target region to ensure the expansion of the undesired hair is permanently halted. Nonetheless there are particular needs with regards to the use of the treatment. The hair must be darker than the surrounding skin. That is since the darker complexion arises from a greater focus of melanin. So if the skin was darker that means it would have more melanin compared to hair for this reason it would absorb the light through the laser. For that reason laser facial hair removal is just not advised for men and women with tanned skin and light colored hair.

Laser facial hair elimination sessions differ depending on the skin colour coarseness with the hair intercourse and the dimensions with the location required to be handled. But generally it will require in between 57 periods for your therapy to get finished effectively. Though sometimes it may take as several as 12 sessions. There is usually a gap between sessions this gap can range from 37 and even go up to 12 weeks sometimes. Typical aspect effects of laser hair removal are redness itching swelling darkening lightening and blemishing of handled regions. But there is no intensive hurt and any side results disappear inside of a couple of days. So if its quickly successful long term and comfy remedy you are seeking to acquire rid of unpleasant hair the reply is laser facial hair removal.

Facial hair has been a burden on women sense the dawn of time. Always wanting to look their best, they endure a monthly ritual of plucking or waxing. Primarily for self esteem issues and that’s OK, because that is what it takes to be accepted in today’s world. In the same sense, a man was once considered desirable if he was all big and burly and a little scruffy. Recently though that stereotype has been looked down upon; Hollywood and the tabloids are redefining what a ‘good looking’ man looks like.. baby smooth.. more like a woman. This has opened a financial windfall for companies offering there services for laser facial hair removal. There are even specialty salons that cater to all kinds of male hair removal needs.

The business and political world with their 3 piece suites would hardly give the time of day to bearded man or even a mustache for that sake. Face it. To be socially acceptable a man has to be at least hair free on his face. Of course there is the archaic routine of daily shaving, maybe even twice a day to avoid that 5:00 shadow. Shaving has become the norm because it is quick, easy to do, and also inexpensive on a daily basis. Whether by razor or electric shaver you’re going to look good for several hours but get to look forward to it every day for the rest of your life which in that time the cost will add up significantly. This reality has prompted men to start looking for alternatives; and this is what they have to choose from:

Waxing:While waxing is Ok for women, it is hardly practical for a guy when it comes to facial hair removal. It might work for the legs or chest if you don’t mind risking getting burnt by the hot wax and if you were an athlete or swimmer or something like that, but not the face. Not even an option for the bikini / genital area in my opinion. It does however last longer than shaving because a razor only gets down to the skin surface, waxing will get much deeper by ripping hair out by the roots thus allowing one to stay smooth longer.

Facial Hair Removal Cream for Men:Chemical depilatories, or better known as hair removal creams, can also be used for removing facial hair. These creams contain various chemicals such as sodium and calcium hydroxide which dissolve the hair follicles without affecting the roots which is only effective down to the skin surface. Word of warning though; these products warn against leaving it on the skin longer than 6 or 7 minutes to minimize the risk of chemical burn. It is recommended to do a test on a small piece of the arm first to test for allergic reaction. If all that goes well you still have to ask yourself.. Is it wise to apply these chemicals to your face every morning?

Plucking / Tweezers:This is one option that may have an advantage over the others only in that very well use a laser, razor or cream on the delicate nose or ear area. Makes sense if you are just addressing the eyebrows as well. Chances are you won’t need to repeat the prossess more than once every few months anyway so have at it.

Electrolysis:Electrolysis is the first and oldest method of permanent hair removal dating back about 130 years. AC current is passed through the tip of a needle into each individual pore. As you can imagine, this can be very time consuming. Even just the face can take several sittings but it is relatively cheaper then laser hair removal. Electrolysis used to be the only option for clients with dark skin and light hair but not anymore.

Laser Hair Removal:The latest and greatest innovation for facial hair removal has been the laser. The first commercial hair removal laser was the Ruby laser as early back as the mid 1990′s. This first generation laser was limited to patients with dark hair and light skin because it targeted the darkness of the roots. Anyone with dark skin was apt to get burnt. A few years later the Nd:YAG laser: was developed which works on all skin types.

			    About the Author

Without a doubt, laser back hair removal is easily the most preferred of all the professional hair removal processes among men. You will find rare cases of adverse reactions, a person ought to get all the details before starting such a journey. Such as, the upfront cost of laser hair removal may be intimidating. Because if you haven’t considered it yet… you know somebody who has.

Removing Facial Hair For Men

First, men have many tools to help them with facial hair removal. For most men, the best method to use is that of shaving.

In the present times, laser hair removal for the face is becoming very popular. With the technological advances, it has become a very quick and safe procedure. It is a great way to remove the hair once and for all and is quite effective on the face, and, in the case of women, solves one major problem with unwanted facial hair. For the past few decades, tweezing or waxing facial hair removes the hairs temporarily, but may stimulate them to grow eventually after certain period from the treatment. Thus, such solutions may worsen the problem, despite providing short-term relief.

In contrast, Soprano XL Technology, the best advancement in laser technology is a permanent and painless hair removal solution that clears away the offending hairs readily as long as they are dark coloured. Laser hair removal for face or laser facial hair removal for women is better than electrolysis because often the procedure of electrolysis leaves small scars on the delicate skin of the face. Always, remember although the laser hair removal is generally permanent, but additional treatments may be necessary as they age. This is because most likely hair follicles in the face tend to become activated as part of the ageing process. However, the laser treatment will work as effectively as it does on the original hair problems.

Also, try not to make use of laser treatment on the eyelids, eyelashes, or in the area of the face directly under the eyebrow. It is because laser light will easily destroy the eye tissue, and a poor targeted flash will end up burning a permanent hole in the retina, while leaving a small blind spot in the field of vision. And, this is why home laser users are recommended not to make use of the epilation laser on the hair between the eyebrows.

In addition, laser treatment also depends on the colour of your facial hair to remove the unwanted hair. If you have pale hair on your face and its very fine, the laser removal may not work for you either. In fact, many clinics are there that will charge you separate fee depending on how much hair you want to remove including your facial hair. In a nutshell, the more hair you want to be removed, the more it will cost.

Hair removal is not just one procedure but a series of procedures that is undertaken by both men and women for the removal of unwanted body hair. There are various methods used for the same. Most of them are used by both, men and women; however there are some methods of hair removal that are designed for particular body types.

Body hair or androgenic hair

Body hair is the colloquial term for androgenic hair. This is the hair that develops on the human body during and after puberty. This hair should not be confused with the hair on the head and the one known as vellus hair. The name “androgenic” itself gives a fair idea of its origins. It is the levels of androgens (male hormones) in the individual that determine the amount of body hair. Men have more androgens than women; hence tend to show more androgenic hair than women.

During a person”s childhood, regardless of the sex, there is a growth of vellus hair all over the human body. There are a few exceptions like specific genital areas, lips, palms of the hands, soles of the feet, scar tissue, navel, and the soles of the feet. Over time, as the levels of androgen increase in the body during and after puberty, the vellus hair in many parts of the body transforms into terminal hair or androgenic hair. The human pubic area is more sensitive to androgens than any other parts of the body hence; there is a heavy appearance of hair in this region first up.

Hair removal for men

These days, it”s not uncommon to come across men who are looking for ways to deal with excess body hair. Moreover, there are quite a number of hair removal methods that men can use.

Laser Hair Removal

In this method, the penetration of focused light energy takes place through the hair shaft, effectively killing it. The results of laser hair removal are either permanent or last for a long time. The Rio Salon Laser or Rio Scanning Laser is a laser based device that has been designed for home use; it can be used for convenient, safe and easy hair removal.

Shaving

Shaving is a common form of hair removal in men, typically used for the removal of facial hair. Some men also use back shavers for shaving their backs and shoulders. Moreover, men also use shaving as a means of shaving hair from their chest.

Creams and Inhibitors

These are also called depilatories and they are essentially natural or chemical compounds in the form of a gel, cream or spray used for hair removal purposes. Their function is to target the protein in the hair and help dissolve them or deplete them appreciably. Thus, hair loosens and falls out instantly.

Other hair removal options for men include waxing and electrolysis, amongst various others.

Hair Removal for Women

Most forms of hair removal for men and women remain common. For e.g. laser hair removal is a popular method of hair removal for women as well. Women with dark hair and light skin are the best candidates for laser hair removal. On the other hand, if a woman has blonde hair, than electrolysis could be a better option. Electrolysis is a permanent option for hair removal and its aim is to destroy those cells that help in hair growth.

Waxing is yet another popular hair removal method for women. Wax is applied to the area of the body that needs hair removal. Then special cloth strips are applied to this area and then pulled in the opposite direction to the hair growth. The hair thus gets removed.

The No! No! Hair removal system is another unique system that removes hair using the trademark heat technology. Its patented Thermicon tip helps remove hair when the device is plugged into a power point.

Sprays like Ultra Hair Away and Hair No More Inhibitor as well as creams like the CC Depilation cream also help women remove body hair effectively.

Laser hair removal is quite effective on the face, and, in the case of women, solves one major problem with unwanted facial hair.

Tweezing or waxing facial hair removes the hairs temporarily, but may stimulate them to grow in coarser when they do eventually recover from the treatment. Thus, such solutions may actually worsen the problem over time, despite providing short-term relief.

Laser hair removal, by contrast, is usually permanent, and clears away the offending hairs readily as long as they are dark-colored. Extremely fine, light facial hair such as that present on everyone’s face will probably not be removed by the laser, but this hair is invisible most of the time and is usually not considered a problem. Laser facial hair removal for women is better than electrolysis because it is far less likely to leave small scars on the delicate skin of the face. A tiny scar on the back of a thigh will be unnoticeable, but one on an otherwise well-groomed face can stand out as unpleasantly as a rogue hair does.

Women should note that although laser hair removal is generally permanent, additional treatments may be necessary as they age. This is because hair follicles in the face tend to become ‘activated’ as part of the aging process, so those with a tendency for unwanted facial hair growth will probably experience it in the future as well, simply not from the same follicles. The laser treatment will work as effectively on these new arrivals as on the original problem hairs, however.

Laser treatment should never be used on the eyelashes, eyelids, or the area of the face directly under the eyebrow, however. Laser light destroys eye tissue easily, and a poor targeted flash could end up burning a permanent hole in the retina, leaving a small blind spot in the field of vision. For this reason, home laser users should not attempt to use their epilation laser on the hair between the eyebrows – a task best left to a professionally qualified esthetician.

The process is unpleasant and other negative effects of scarring and inflammation may possibly arise. There is also a threat of infection in the event the needles utilised arent effectively sterilized.

The next method of long lasting facial hair removal may be the laser hair removal remedy. A laser is directed onto the hair follicle by means of the pores and skin and kills the follicle. It generally operates best on light skinned particular person with dark hair as the melanin within the hair absorbs far more of the laser light. This technique of long term facial hair elimination is deemed permanent but typically visits every single six months are necessary as a result of re growth.

What is the best way to remove unwanted facial hair? Shaving is by far the most common method of hair removal for both men and women. Men have been shaving their beards and mustaches for thousands of years. One need only take a look at the huge selection of razors available today to support this. Shaving creams, gels, foams and other products facilitate the shaving process and help reduce skin irritation. But for women suffering with unwanted facial hair, their choices are not so obvious. Many men too are looking for alternatives.

Women with excessive facial hair usually see it along the upper lip, down the sides of the face, and on the chin. Unlike with men, shaving isn’t the best removal option. So what’s a woman to do? Because facial hair is typically much more than a few wayward hair follicles, plucking these areas isn’t an effective method. It’s time-consuming and painful! What’s needed instead is a method designed for more widespread removal like depilatories and waxing or even electrolysis or laser treatment.

1. Depilatories

Depilatories are an inexpensive, short-term facial hair removal option. Available in gel, cream, lotion, aerosol, and roll-on forms, they contain a highly alkaline chemical – usually calcium thioglycolate – that dissolves the protein structure of the hair, causing it to separate easily from the skin surface. Extreme care must be taken when using on the face as these products can irritate and even burn facial skin. And because depilatories only dissolve visible hair, this method must be repeated frequently as new hair growth appears. The upside is, this process is inexpensive and can be done in the privacy of your own home.

2. Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal technique that works by destroying individual hair follicles so that hair can no longer grow. Electrolysis and laser are better options. They’re permanent facial hair removal methods and they work by damaging the base of the hair follicle so that hair growth no longer occurs. Both of these are expensive options and repeated sessions are generally necessary to remove all hair. But considering that relatively small surface areas are involved, many people are able to justify the costs, the risks and the discomfort involved.

3. Tweezing and Waxing

While depilatories remove hair at the skin’s surface, “epilatories,” such as tweezers and waxes, pluck hairs from below the surface. Waxing offers many benefits and is the facial hair removal choice of men and women alike. Like with tweezers, when waxing the hair is ‘plucked’ from its root. This method doesn’t damage the actual hair follicle, so new hair growth will continue to occur, but unlike depilatories, new hair growth won’t appear on the skin surface as quickly. In fact, it usually isn’t visible for several weeks. And, if you’re brave enough, waxing facial hair can be done by you at home, however many opt to have someone else perform this procedure. Waxing and tweezing may be more painful than using a depilatory, but the results are longer lasting. Because the hair is plucked at the root, new growth is not visible for several weeks after treatment.

The cost, safety, effectiveness, and ease of use of the various methods, as well as the area and amount of hair growth to be treated, are some factors to weigh in choosing a method and deciding whether to go to a professional. Often, different methods are better suited for different areas.
